Probably one of the most common health and beauty questions is 'how can I get skinny?' Partly due to cultural ideas of beauty, partly because of the health concerns associated with being overweight, few women are immune to the desire to shed some pounds – and few men either!
What to Know Before Getting Skinny
Before setting out to lose some weight, there are few things it’s important to consider:
Your Bone Structure: Some women can lose weight until they are anorexic and dying from it, they will still never fit into size 10 jeans. Why? They have hips. Wide hip bones are something a woman can't change, and trying to get 'skinny' when your bones are in the way is not happening. On the plus side, men usually love hips, and health wise all that matters is getting rid of the fat, not your jean size. A similar thing goes for men – broad hips and broad shoulders aren't going away.
Your 'Ideal' Weight: taking the time to ask a doctor about what a healthy weight is can be very important. Losing too much weight is actually worse than no losing enough. A doctor who knows you can give you a more realistic idea of what you should be shooting for than a random chart on the internet.
Your Goals: What are you shooting for? Your ideal weight? a dress size? Making your partner's jaw drop? Know what your goals are, and try to make them short term. You'll see more progress and be more motivated to keep going. Just make sure your goals are realistic to your body and your health.
Don't Get Skinny Too Fast! Losing too much weight too fast can be unhealthy and dangerous. Even if you still overweight after slimming down, you can develop symptoms of anorexia if you don't lose weight in a healthy way. So take it slow, and if you want to get skinny quickly, work with a doctor to find a way to do it that is healthy.
